About Us

Our
History

Our history is as deep as the community we serve.

Since 1961, Appomattox County Rescue Squad has proudly served the citizens of Appomattox County. And though we have come a long way since then, our dedication to the citizens of Appomattox County remains the same.

Appomattox County Rescue Squad is an independent, non-profit, volunteer-based EMS organization. We have 5 ambulances as well as various support equipment that includes ancillary vehicles and a UTV. These all support us in our mission to provide the best care possible to the citizens in our coverage area.

We currently have over 45 volunteers that selflessly serve at minimum of 24 hours a month. It is these volunteers that also lead our organization day in and day out. In addition to our volunteers we also have over 10 career staff members. While our volunteers are what drives us, our career staff members support us almost every weekday of the year. These staff members work 6am - 6pm Monday to Friday, with the exception of several major holidays.

In addition to responding to emergency calls for service, we are heavily involved in community outreach activities. This includes attending athletic events, participating in community events, celebrations, and festivals, and sponsoring training events.
